Road to Activism: Traveling Mercies, Aldo Magazzeni

I attended the diversity event Road to Activism: Traveling Mercies, Aldo Magazzeni. Aldo Magazzeni created a nonprofit organization; Traveling Mercies. This organization helps Afghanistan, Kenya, Haiti, and Mexico.

In Afghanistan the organization project included completing six water projects to provide safe water to thousands of people. This organization teamed up with Voice of Women Organization because of the fact that women get a lot less say then what men do. Together they support existing programs, help create a additional shelter house for women, and provid a Drug Addition Project for women. In Tepozlan, Mexico the organization is helping fund and support the daily food program and more. In Kenya the project involves 25 villages to establish community farming by installing a water well and drip irrigation system.

I have a lot of respect for this man because not very many people will be willing to even think about doing this for anyone let alone actually get up and do it.

Week of Twitter

I have had Facebook for quite some time now. I had Myspace, Xanga and any other social network you can think of. I had a Twitter at one point in time but deactivated my account because of the fact that I get so addicted to these social networks and will practically spend my whole day on them. Now having a Twitter account, where you can find me at http://twitter.com/#!/AmyMarie7, again may get my in trouble
Twitter has been a great way for me to follow some of my teachers and to also know what is going on in my hometown. It is nice to know how my brother’s football team is doing since I cannot go to every single game every Friday. Following my teachers on Twitter helps since a lot of them do not have a Facebook.
I defiantly think I will keep my Twitter account this time to keep up with the sports that my brother is involved in and to also keep up with people and businesses I am interested, even if I do spend half my day on it. It is a good way for me to get more involved in a conversation if and when I am in a interview with a certain company, and it will also put me a head of the other interviewers when I have more of an “interest” in what is exactly going on. Maybe being addicted to Twitter is not such a bad thing for people especially when you are using it in the perspective to get a head in the business world.
